In Memoriam: David C. Morganelli ’89; loyal alumnus contributed in multiple ways to College

David C. Morganelli, Esq., C.P.A. ’89, of Milford, Mass., an active and loyal alumnus of Providence College, died on Sept. 16.

A cum laude graduate who majored in accountancy at PC, Mr. Morganelli received a juris doctor degree from the New England School of Law in 1993 and earned a master of law degree in banking law from Boston University School of Law a year later. He was working on a second master of law degree, in tax law, at Bentley College at the time of his death.

Mr. Morganelli worked for the past eight years at the Providence law firm of Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP, where he was chair of the Tax Group.

Mr. Morganelli’s affinity for PC manifested itself in many ways. He performed some tax work for and was a consultant to the College’s legal department. He remained close to the Department of Accountancy, sharing his life and legal career path with undergraduates in class presentations, as well as providing sage career advice. Occasionally, he would call his former teacher, Carol A. Hartley, C.P.A., assistant professor of accountancy, to discuss an accounting theory topic or the regional expansion of casino gambling.

He also was a longtime season ticket holder for Friars’ men’s basketball, served on the PC National Alumni Association Council (formerly the Board of Governors), volunteered for alumni events including Reunion Weekend, and was a former member of the College’s Providence President’s Council.

Mr. Morganelli’s dedication to his alma mater personified his selfless, caring nature in general. An active member of his town’s community, he founded the Milford Farmer’s Market, served as a member of the Milford Finance Committee, was a Town Meeting member, and was actively involved in the Milford anti-casino movement.

He also coached his son’s basketball and baseball teams for many years and served as a lector at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Mr. Morganelli was the husband of Janet (DiGregorio) Morganelli. He also is survived by his children, Ava M., Jane H., and Peter C. Morganelli; three brothers, Peter, Paul, and Mark Morganelli; and a sister, Carla (Morganelli) Mullen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sept. 20 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Milford. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
