PC to mark Veterans Day with special events

vets-day1Providence College will honor those who have served in the military this Veterans Day with a series of programs over the course of two days.

  • A panel presentation, “How Do We Remember?”, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in Slavin Center 112. Five members of the College community will share their stories on why those chose to serve our country and how their preconceived notions of what it means to serve have changed. The panelists will include representatives of the College’s Army ROTC Patriot Battalion and the U.S. Army. The program is being presented by students in the health policy and management colloquium, Storytelling in the Public Square. It will be streamed live at www.providence.edu/live.
  • The ROTC Patriot Battalion’s Veterans Day Ceremony will take place on the national holiday, Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 3:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Grotto. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in St. Dominic Chapel, adjacent to the grotto. The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Oscar Diano, a military instructor at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I.
  • Also on Wednesday, Nov. 11, the College will show its appreciation to alumni who have served in the military with a phone “thank-a-thon” from 3 to 8 p.m. EST. Members of the Student Alumni Association and cadets in the Patriot Battalion will call alumni to thank them for their service.
