Six alumni assigned to Teach For America positions

Six Providence College graduates have begun teaching commitments with Teach For America’s 2015 teaching corps.

teach-apple1Teach For America is a non-profit organization that places recent college graduates and those changing careers in classrooms in low-income communities throughout the country. Teachers commit to two years of classroom instruction and agree to support Teach For America’s mission “to enlist, develop, and mobilize as many as possible of our nation’s most promising future leaders to grow and strengthen the movement for educational equity and excellence.”

The six PC alumni are teaching in five states, from Massachusetts to Colorado. Alumni and their teaching assignments follow:

• Dania Derivois ’15 graduated from PC as a social science major and is teaching upper elementary students at Up Academy in Dorchester, Mass.

• Caitlyn Green ’05 is applying her social science major to teach social studies at Venture Prep Charter High School in Denver, Colo.

• Joseph Miller ’10, a political science major, is teaching social studies at University High School of Science and Engineering in Hartford, Conn.

• James Morin ’15, a history major, is teaching social studies at Rogers Middle School in Tulsa, Okla.

• Michele Beck ’15, who majored in economics, is teaching science at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla.

• Chastity Mathurin ’15, who graduated with a double major in sociology and political science, is teaching upper elementary science at Greenwood (Elihu) Leadership Academy in Hyde Park, Mass.
