Statement on Father Shanley, March 29, 2019
Providence College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. ’80 announced today that he will complete his tenure as president of Providence College after 15 years when his current term ends on June 30, 2020.
Father Shanley played a leadership role in overseeing the development of the College’s new Strategic Plan, PC200, which was approved by our Board of Trustees earlier this year. Thanks to Father Shanley, the College is well-positioned for continued growth and future success. We are grateful for his continued stewardship, and look forward to further achievement in academics, student development and well-being, and athletics under his leadership in the next 15 months.
In July of this year, Father Shanley will become the longest-serving president in Providence College history. Elected president for his first, five-year term in 2005, he was subsequently elected to two additional, five-year terms by the College Corporation and its Board of Trustees.
The Board of Trustees will announce plans to choose a successor to Father Shanley in the weeks and months ahead.
