Arthur T. Gately Jr. ’49; served NAA Council, Mal Brown Club 

Arthur T. Gately Jr. ’49, who was honored twice for his service and dedication to the College and its alumni community, died Nov. 28, 2017.

Mr. Gately was a longtime member of the Mal Brown Club, the Greater Providence chapter of the National Alumni Association, and served on the NAA Council from 1999-2002. He received the NAA’s Faithful Friar Award in 1994 and the Mal Brown Award from that club in 2001.

In addition to his service to PC at the local and national levels, he attended homecoming, reunion weekend, and other College events and programs over the decades.

Mr. Gately, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from PC, was a retired senior vice president of administration for Swank Inc., where he worked 54 years. The manufacturer was founded in 1897 and produces high-quality men’s fashion accessories such as jewelry, belts, and personal leather accessories.

Mr. Gately was a board member of the Attleboro, Mass., Chamber of Commerce and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golf, and travel, taking many trips with his wife throughout Europe and North America.

He was the husband of Helen (Sacharko) Gately for more than 60 years. He is also survived by his sons, Arthur T. Gately III ’81, and his wife, Rosemary, and Edward J. Gately ’82 and his wife, Lynn; and five grandchildren, Arthur T. Gately IV, and Jillian, Shannon, Kattie, and Krissy Gately.

Mr. Gately’s life was celebrated at a Mass of Christian Burial on Dec. 2 at St. Margaret Church, Rumford.
