Herman L. “Butch” Clary, Jr. ’67 & ’77G, a former assistant treasurer at the College, died on June 22, 2018, at The Westerly (R.I.) Hospital.  

Mr. Clary earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from PC in 1967 and an MBA 10 years later. He began working in business operations at his alma mater in 1970 and served for approximately 30 years. In 1996, he was promoted from executive director of budgets to executive director of financial services.  

A year later, he was named assistant vice president for finance and assistant treasurer. His duties included overseeing the College’s accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, student receivable, and short-term management functions.  

Mr. Clary was honored for his service, loyalty, and dedication to PC in 1997 when the National Alumni Association presented him with the Faculty/Staff Award.   

Mr. Clary was a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers. He also was a member and served as treasurer and as chair of the finance committee of the PARI Independent Living Center in Pawtucket, R.I. He was a trustee of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Bradford, R.I. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.  

Born in Westerly, he was a son of the late Herman L. Clary, Sr. and Josephine Clary. He is survived by two sisters, Leona H. Coon and Hazel C. Collins and her husband, Kenneth Collins, and several nieces and nephews.  

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life was held on June 26 in St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial followed in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
