The Providence College South Coast Massachusetts Alumni Club celebrated the Rev. John F. Hogan Scholarship Fund and its impact on PC students recently at a club gathering at Bittersweet Farm in Westport, Mass. Current recipients and representatives of the scholarship fund were introduced during the program.

The Rev. John F. Hogan Scholarship Fund was established in 1986 by William J. Synnott, Esq. ’69. An attorney who was an humanities major and a cum laude graduate of PC,  Synnott has been a longtime alumni volunteer leader and supporter of the College. The fund annually benefits students from the Fall River and New Bedford areas. Indicative of the high esteem in which he was held, the Rev. Hogan Scholarship endowment has grown to approximately $700,000 and is among the largest named student aid funds at PC.

A native of Fall River, Father Hogan graduated from PC in 1939 and was ordained a priest in 1945. His long and distinguished ministry in the Diocese of Fall River included service as director of St. Mary’s Home for Children, the Catholic Welfare Bureau, and the Diocesan Television Apostolate. He also served as pastor of St. John the Baptist Church in Westport and as founding pastor of St. Julie Billiart Church in North Dartmouth. Father Hogan died in 1986.
