James P. Sullivan ’59; NAA honoree served in multiple alumni roles
James P. Sullivan ’59 of Westerly, R.I., a dedicated alumnus and recipient of an award from the PC National Alumni Association (NAA), died on Aug. 15, 2019.

Born in Providence, Mr. Sullivan received a bachelor’s degree in business from PC and was a member of the ROTC Program.
After graduating, he remained an active and generous member of the College community, serving in roles such as class ambassador, class agent, reunion committee, and through other volunteer and philanthropic endeavors. In 1989, he received the Bishop Harkins Award from the NAA, an honor which recognizes alumni for outstandng service and dedication to the Catholic Church and its mission.
Mr. Sullivan’s career included positions as CFO of the Diocese of Providence, board member of Washington Trust, and his private CPA practice. He was active in St. Clare Parish in Westerly and St. Michael’s Parish in Providence.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (Grady) Sullivan; four children, including Maureen Donaghey ’86, senior philanthropic officer in the PC Office of Major Gifts; a brother; and 10 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Aug. 21 at St. Clare Church.
