New England Soccer honors Doyle
Taking his rightful spot among the most influential people in regional soccer history, former Providence College men’s coach Bill Doyle was inducted into the New England Soccer Hall of Fame in November.
Doyle took over the Friar program in 1968 and built it into a regional powerhouse while also creating a national profile for PC soccer. The program hit its stride in the early 1980s, with the 1983 team advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The 1984 team was ranked as high as eighth in the country, and Doyle was a National Coach of the Year finalist. His tenure at PC continued through the 1994 season, and he compiled a record of 207-155-35.
