Providence College sets new fundraising record in 2022-2023

By Vicki-Ann Downing

Providence College raised $50.8 million in gifts and pledges during the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the largest amount in college history. The total includes contributions from more than 11,700 alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends, including 1,842 who gave for the first time.

Half of all first-time donors gave to The Fund for Providence College, PC’s annual fund, which enhances the student experience by supporting the college’s greatest areas of need, financial aid and emergency assistance, varsity athletics, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Donors also demonstrated their support for the college’s strategic initiatives, including the establishment of new programs in nursing and health sciences. A lead gift of $10 million from Madeline Mondor will help to establish the Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences, under construction on campus.

“A primary reason for the notable ascendancy of Providence College in recent years is the dedicated support of the great many alumni, parents, and friends who believe in our mission and purpose,” said College President Rev. Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P. ’78, ’82G. “Individually and collectively, they inspire our imaginings and leaven our ambitions.

“While the success of this past year is humbling, it also motivates all of us — students, faculty, staff, and alumni alike — to continue striving toward the full realization of Providence College’s vast potential. We are grateful beyond words,” Father Sicard said.

The generosity of supporters allowed the college to add $12.9 million to its endowment, which now stands at $321 million, and to direct an additional $10.5 million to financial aid and scholarships.

The record-setting total included $7.4 million in gifts to PC Athletics, also the most in history, including four seven-figure gifts and newly endowed funds to support student-athletes.

While multiple six- and seven-figure gifts were received during the year, more than 8,000 donors — 72% of the total — made gifts of less than $500.

“I am grateful to my advancement colleagues and our campus partners — too many to count —for their hard work and dedication in helping us achieve our ambitious goals,” said Gregory T. Waldron, senior vice president for institutional advancement. “We are fortunate to be part of a college community where shared commitment and selfless collaboration can yield such remarkable results.

“Most importantly, we are grateful to our generous donors, whose faith in Providence College provides the inspiration that fuels the daily pursuit of our shared objectives,” Waldron said. “Their commitment fosters the institution’s progress toward achieving its high aspirations while making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students, each and every day.”

Every year Providence College strives to enhance academic and extracurricular opportunities, increase access, build on the success of the Friar sports teams, improve facilities, help students find their passion and purpose, and advance our Catholic and Dominican tradition. PC can’t reach these goals without you. Thank you. Your support of The Fund for Providence College makes the difference.
