Rhode Islanders: There’s still time to get a Friars license plate
Hundreds of fans of Providence College in Rhode Island have committed to a commemorative Friars license plate.
But new state legislation might reduce the wait for Friar fans. In 2018, the Rhode Island General Assembly passed a license plate bill that reduces the minimum number of commitments to begin production to 600, from 900.
As of September 2018, 326 people had signed up for PC plates for their vehicle, bringing the College halfway toward the goal. However, the College must receive the minimum number of commitments before July 15, 2019.
To sign up, drivers are asked to pre-pay a $40 first-time fee for the plates — $20 for plate production and state fees, and $20 for the Angel Fund. The fund provides assistance to PC students of families with unexpected and extraordinary financial challenges so that those students can continue their studies at Providence College. Renewing a PC plate will cost an additional $10, which also will go to the Angel Fund.
Once production begins, the College will notify drivers who register for the PC plates. For more information and to reserve your plate, go to prov.ly/pcplate.
