Warren C. Howe, III ’87 is a hall of famer, but he’s hardly retired.

An industry expert in stable value markets who oversees billions of dollars in retirement business sales annually, Howe joined an elite group of 20 company all-stars when he was inducted into the MetLife Institutional Business Hall of Fame.  The hall of fame, which consists of MetLife’s Group Insurance and Retirement Business segments, honors individuals who perform at an extraordinary and sustained level.

Howe, who has worked at MetLife since 2005, has operated at the highest levels of the insurance giant’s sales organization for years. As the national sales director and head of institutional stable value investment sales, he heads up sales and client relationship management across the country for MetLife’s $60 billion stable value business.

The Wallingford, Conn., resident has qualified for MetLife’s Sales Leaders Conference — a milestone annual event that recognizes outstanding sales success —10 times. He has qualified nine times for MetLife’s Chairman’s Council, which represents the top 5% of sales success each year. In 2009, Howe was the No. 1 sales person in the company’s Retirement Business segment.

As a national stable value business expert, Howe has been interviewed by industry magazines, appeared on national webcasts and Asset TV, presented at industry conferences, and been elected to two terms on the board of directors of the Stable Value Investment Association.

“This is an honor I never thought I’d have,” he said.

Howe and his family have deep ties to Providence College. His father is Warren C. Howe, Jr. ’60, who also enjoyed a career as an insurance industry executive and is a past president of the PC National Alumni Association Council. Warren III and his wife, Patricia, have a son who is also a Friar, as Warren C. Howe, IV graduated in 2017. Warren III’s sister, Alison E. Shanahan, graduated from PC in 1990 and is married to Timothy G. Shanahan ’89.

A former member of the College’s NAA Council, Howe worked at Travelers Life & Annuity for 17 years before joining MetLife in 2005 after it purchased Travelers from Citigroup. He has served in a variety of retirement business-related roles during his career, including defined contribution plan administration, defined benefit plan administration, and stable value investment sales.

He rapidly ascended the corporate executive ladder with MetLife. He initially worked independently in sales before progressing in responsibilities and in leadership roles to his current position as national sales director.
